- An excellent forager that thrives under free-range or semi-intensive systems with minimal supplementary feed. Its hard-shelled eggs keep longer and break less than chicken eggs, with laying concentrated roughly between August and April and annual output around 80-100 eggs under decent management; birds reach market weight of about 1.2-1.5kg in roughly 4-5 months. Their loud, alert temperament also makes them useful as "watchdogs" alerting the homestead to predators or intruders.

- The meat is considered a delicacy commanding premium prices in Kenyan urban and hotel markets, and low disease and input costs make guinea fowl an attractive diversification enterprise for smallholders, with growing niche demand and government/NGO promotion as an alternative poultry income source.
